Discover fascinating facts about highlight objects and the behind-the-scenes experience of curating the exhibition. About the curatorsNoorashikin binte Zulkifli Senior Curator (Islamic Art), Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan MuseumNoorashikin binte Zulkifli joined the Asian Civilisations Museum in 2015 as curator of Islamic art. She was lead curator for the revamp of the Islamic Art Gallery (2018), and curated the exhibition ‘Ilm: Science and Imagination in the Islamic World (2016). She was formerly a curator at the Malay Heritage Centre in Kampong Gelam, Singapore’s historic Muslim quarter. She worked on the revamp of its permanent galleries, and curated several exhibitions, including Yang Menulis – They Who Write (2012) and Budi Daya (2015). Her meandering journey includes curatorial and programming positions at National University of Singapore Museum and Singapore Art Museum. She holds a Masters in Interactive Media and Critical Theory from Goldsmiths College (UK). Noora’s current research interests revolve around Islamic Southeast Asia, manuscripts, and the arts of the book.  Conan CheongCurator, Southeast Asia, Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan MuseumConan Cheong is Curator for Southeast Asia at ACM and Peranakan Museum, specialising in Buddhist and Hindu art. He received an MA in Art History and Archaeology under the Alphawood Scholarships at SOAS University of London in 2018. At ACM since 2013, he most recently curated Living with Ink: The Collection of Dr Tan Tsze Chor (2019) and Fashionable in Asia (2021). About the exhibitionACM explores wellness and the wholeness of body, spirit, and mind with this exhibition. Featuring over 100 objects from the National Collection, private collectors, and local communities, this special exhibition presents a stunning display of sacred and ritual art from Singapore and the region. Join us in contemplating the many ways in which religions in Asia understand the human body through rituals, healing practices, pilgrimage, and divine images. Complementing the main exhibition are two special showcases. Buddha Relics displays gems and other precious offerings found together with bone relics of the Buddha in the Piprahwa Stupa in India in 1898. In Vel Vel: The Burden Dance (a project by Sistrum), learn more about kavadi — elaborate structures carried in Thaipusam, a yearly procession celebrated by Singapore’s Tamil Hindu community.---Please note that this is a paid tour.
