Artist Workshop: Forever Fish (27 Jan, 7.30pm)

Description

Combine the mundane and the surreal in this polymer clay workshop with artist PAYNK. Suitable for all levels, learn to make your own clay fish suspended in a glass bottle. Draw inspiration from the museum's collection and reflect on current issues of art, technology, and the ecosystem.

Registered participants should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session in the lobby. Limited spaces are available.

Part of the Light to Night Festival 2018.

About Recording Today
By PAYNK
19 to 28 January, ACM Chinese Ceramics Gallery

Recording Today, a site-specific, interactive installation, models both our current state of mind and 21st-century technology while referencing Chinese white ceramics in the ACM galleries. On three plinths, PAYNK re-imagines mundane scenes with a surreal touch: sea creatures fossilised in a peepshow high-rise grave; a stagnant ocean of porcelain tech-trash that can only be revealed via smartphone; and a specimen of a sunken shopping spree. Just like how ceramics used in the past are left to help us understand and document those times, we also leave behind records of our existence through our art and technology. Will ours spark the same wonder and awe for our future generations?

About PAYNK
PAYNK uses illustrations and sculptures to tell stories and ask questions. The female form and nature are common subjects in her art. Often, she gives things a fantastical twist. PAYNK creates curious, mysterious images that are sometimes unsettling, sometimes humorous.

PAYNK earned a BFA at Nanyang Technological University. Her works have been featured in JUICE Singapore, Kult, Tatler, SALT, and on Channel NewsAsia. She has exhibited at SG50, Kult Gallery, The Vagabond Club, P.V.S., Front Row, and other venues.
