Since that fateful day, he has been diving in the sea every week in search for her. Compelled and inspired to share his story, I Want To Go Home is a journey from Singapore to Onagawa through the lens of the intrigued to meet him. A story of survival and faith, the film speaks of a man’s loss, recovery and determination to reunite with his loved one, and the unlikely friendships forged across borders and languages. In addition, the narrative has most recently been published as a dual-language novel of the same name in both Japanese and English. If you wish to be placed on our waiting list, kindly email programmes@artshouse.sg.About the director and authorWesley Leon Aroozoo is a lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts and a multi-disciplinary practitioner with 13 Little Pictures. In 2017, his debut feature film I Want To Go Home, a recipient of the Tokyo Filmex Grant, World Premiered at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival and contested in the Wide Angle Documentary Competition, one of only ten films selected for the category. Its companion dual-language novel written by Wesley is published by Math Paper Press.In 2015, Wesley was commissioned by The Asian Film Archive to direct a film for the Fragments Anthology alongside acclaimed directors such as Lav Diaz and Tan Chui Mui. Wesley’s previous 14 short films have been awarded and screened in over 100 festivals. Wesley is a published author with two novels, produced playwright with plays such as Bedok Reservoir staged at the Goodman Arts Centre and with numerous script work for Mediacorp. Wesley is a graduate with a Master of Fine Arts from New York University Tisch Asia and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Nanyang Technological University.This programme is part of Textures – a weekend with words.Textures celebrates the power and beauty of words. It invites audiences to experience and appreciate how words give us the ability to express ourselves as well as give meaning to our lives and the world.
