Cases of discrimination against foreigners, especially those of Chinese descent, as a source of infection are increasing rapidly around the world. East Asia is no exception. In a strongly homogeneous society, foreigners are subject to discrimination and oppression as the "other. Such oppression and discrimination can be both institutional and social. Hate speech against foreigners is also on the rise, but in many cases such discourse is justified on the basis of freedom of expression. He completed his Ph.D. in Ideology and Discourse Analysis at the University of Essex, United Kingdom. His research interests include international relations in East Asia, especially international human rights regimes, Business and human rights issues in ASEAN. He is the author of numerous books including East Asian regionalism and multicultural democracy.Jocelyn CeleroJocelyn O. Celero is currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Japan Studies Program at the Asian Center, University of the Philippines-Diliman. She teaches specialization courses on Asian as well as Philippine Studies. Dr. Celero earned her PhD in International Studies from Waseda University (2016) and MA in Global Studies from Sophia University (2012) through a scholarship from the Ministry of Education of Japan. Since 2019, she has served as Research Consultant/Focal Person for UP-CIFAL Philippines, a unit affiliated with the United Nations for Training and Research (UNITAR) and is in charge of promoting Sustainable Development Goals through initiatives for national, local, as well as international institutions.  Her research interests include migration, youth and family mobilities, and social policy.Jinhee KimJinhee Kim is a research director on United Nation' SDGs education agenda and International Education Development Cooperation at the Korean Educational Development Institute in the Republic of Korea. Born in Korea, she received her PhD (summa cum laude graduate) from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. Dr Kim’s international academic experiences and studies in Canada (University of Toronto), Germany (Siegen University), Australia (University of Technology Sydney) and South Africa (University of Free State) have given her a global perspective on education. UNESCO Headquarter invited her as a member of the EAG(Expert Advisory Group) for Global Citizenship Education.
