He co-authored The Straits Chinese House with Jennifer Chen, published by the National Museum of Singapore (1998; 2006). In 2008, he produced Junk to Jewels – The Things that Peranakans Value, an exhibition and catalogue for the Peranakan Museum (TPM). He co-curated Sarong Kebaya: Peranakan Fashion in an Interconnected World, 1500–1950 (2011) at TPM and his book on subject was published in 2014; it was shortlisted for the Singapore History Prize in 2018. The 2013 exhibition Inherited and Salvaged: Family Portraits from the NUS Museum Straits Chinese Collection comprised largely of portrait paintings he had assembled; he contributed an essay to the exhibition catalogue published in 2015. In 2016, he co-curated Singapore, Sarong Kebaya and Style at the Fukuoka Art Museum and the Shoto Museum in Tokyo. He was guest curator of Port Cities: Multicultural Emporiums of Asia, 1500–1900 (2016) at ACM; and co-authored its exhibition catalogue. In 2017, he was the historical consultant for a Peranakan-themed short film launched at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4. Peter was guest curator of Amek Gambar – Taking Pictures: Peranakans and Photography (2018–19) at TPM. In 2020, The Mark of Empire, a four-part documentary in which he features as the host, was broadcast regionally by Channel News Asia (CNA), Singapore, and uploaded on Youtube. The next season of the documentary will premiere on CNA in December 2022.His family collection of batik was assembled from the late 1990s and focuses on the art, cultural contextand antecedents of this sublime Indonesian art form.ModeratorLee Chor Lin, art historian and museum consultant, is curator of the exhibition Batik Kita: Dressing in Port Cities. She began her museum career in 1985 as a curator at the National Museum. She has been senior curator at ACM (1993–2002), and director of the National Museum of Singapore (2003–13), where she transformed the museum, influencing greatly the museum scene in Singapore. Lee was CEO of Arts House Limited (2013–16), which she set up for the National Arts Council, and which ran the Singapore International Festival of Arts. She was conferred Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France in 2009 and Cavaliere, Ordine della Stella d’Italia, by Italy in 2012.Organised in conjunction with the exhibition Batik Kita: Dressing in Port CitiesPlease note that this is a paid programme.
