We are excited to welcome all HCS Members and their guests to our first Annual Dinner since 2019. Our esteemed Guest of Honour for the Annual Dinner will be Mr Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore and Minister for Finance. He is also a Member of Parliament for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, co-chairs the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on COVID-19 and is the Deputy Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Under his charge as Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth in 2013, Mr Wong introduced the S$200 million Cultural Matching Fund, he oversaw the establishment of a new S$100 million National Youth Fund to champion community and social causes, and spearheaded the free museum entry policy for all Singaporeans and permanent residents. Last but not least, Mr Wong led the team that successfully bid for the Singapore Botanic Gardens to be recognised as Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. He completed a Master of Public Administration at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Mr Wong will deliver a keynote speech and also present the 2022 HCS Fellow Award to Mr Thirunalan Sasitharan, Director and Co-founder of Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI), who is our third Fellow Awardee. Mr Sasitharan became the second Artistic Director of The Substation from April 1996 to August 2000 before he co-founded ITI in 2000 with the late influential dramatist and arts activist Kuo Pao Kun. In 2012, Mr Sasitharan was awarded the Cultural Medallion, the highest award for the arts in Singapore. Mr Sasitharan will also give a speech on his vision and outlook on the Singapore arts scene.Other notable guests expected at the Annual Dinner will be our past Fellow Awardees, Dr Noeleen Heyzer and Professor Wang Gungwu.
