This session features filmmakers Giselle Lin, Hilman Haris Hor, Donna Chua, Alisa Yeo and Tamara Tan, who are recent graduates from LASALLE College of the Arts, NTU ADM, and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. They will discuss topics ranging from the inspiration behind their films to the landscape of filmmaking in Singapore, as young filmmakers starting out in the industry. The session will be moderated by Leong Puiyee.--------Giselle Lin is a writer-director from Singapore. She studied film at the LASALLE College of the Arts Puttnam School of Film & Animation. Her thesis short film Yi yi (Time Flows in Strange Ways on Sundays) premiered at the 74th Locarno Film Festival’s Pardi di domani: International Competition section. Her upcoming short film, Children’s Day, was chosen to participate in the Objectifs Short Film Incubator 2022. Concurrently, her debut feature project, Midnight Blue Spring, was selected for the 32nd Singapore International Film Festival’s Southeast Asian Film Lab and the inaugural Locarno Residency. Giselle hopes to forever make films filled with human truth, touch, and taste — films that people feel before understanding.Hilman Haris Hor is a Singaporean writer/director whose interest in stories lies in how they form a natural part of the way that people come to understand themselves, and how an awareness of this process can be liberating. His personal works frequently explore a specifically masculine form of emotional suppression; its redirection into violence, and the way that it affects the formation of meaningful relationships. He graduated in 2021 from Nanyang Technological University's School of Art, Design and Media with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specialising in filmmaking.Tamara Tan is a filmmaker and musician based in Singapore.Donna Chua is currently an undergraduate student at Nanyang Technological University. Graduated from School of The Arts Singapore in 2020, she studied filmmaking and visual arts. Sweet Sixteen (2020) was her graduate film, where she directed and wrote the screenplay. She takes inspiration from her personal experiences and hopes to convey her emotions to audiences through her art. Alisa Yeo is a graduate of the School of the Arts (SOTA) majoring in film at a higher level in the International Baccalaureate. Having been the cohort stuck in lockdown, she tapped into her arts background and learnt a new medium to create the first animated short in SOTA’s history. She continues to incorporate animations as elements in her newer short films and intends to continue exploring this medium as a means of storytelling.--------Objectifs Cinema: Now Showing is a celebration of the richness and diversity of Southeast Asian short films. It is an exhibition that hopes to gather film lovers of all backgrounds through screenings, talks, sharing sessions, and a film memorabilia showcase. It aims to set the stage for deeper discussions and a broader understanding of short films from the region.Visit https://www.objectifs.com.sg/objectifs-cinema/ for more details about the programme.
