日本語の説明は最後にありますThree years and one global pandemic later, the team at tonari.no is back with the second edition of the Tokyo Rust Game Hack event!You might remember the announcement for 2019's edition when we lured intrepid Rust developers from all around Tokyo for an evening of hacking and gaming, with beers on tap and pizza on us. Here's a belated update: it went great!We're ready to open our doors again, both physical and virtual (keep reading to know how to participate if you're not in Tokyo). The real question is... Are you ready to tackle the Bombercrab challenge? The Bombercrab Challenge (cue ominous music)   EDIT: We've open sourced the Player template repository ahead of time so you can get a nice headstart. Good luck! For this edition of the Game Hack event, we're dragging you back through the mists of time, to the earlier days of arcade games. We've built a Bevy-powered, simple reimagining of classic Bomberman, with a modern twist. Players don't participate by taking turns on an arcade stick. Instead, we will provide a crate that defines the character's interaction with the world through a Player trait. By simply implementing that trait and compiling to a wasm target, you'll be able to upload your character to the game, live. Adapt your strategy on the fly and bomb your way into the scoreboard!Anyone that attends the physical meetup will be able to participate, whether by exercising their Rust skills or their strategic acumen. We'll make sure to partner up with people with different Rust skill levels, so don't be shy if the borrow checker still causes you trouble.Even if you're not able to join in person, you can still participate! We'll be streaming the game on Twitch, and we've prepared a handful of API keys to give out on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are interested, send us a message telling us something about you and why you like Rust. Please be mindful of the timezone; if you aren't able to participate between 7 PM and 11:30 PM JST (Aug 12th), please leave the slot for someone who can make use of it.We'll open source the player crate shortly before the event, and the full game right after. We debated open-sourcing both from the get-go, but we decided that keeping the inner workings of the server-side a secret will make the event more interesting. The venue This event is hosted by Straylight, a non-profit creative collective. This is a community space, so we ask that attendees be mindful about picking up after themselves during and after the event. There will be pizza and beer, once again on us, so nobody runs out of hacking fuel!Straylight is located 1-minute west of Yoyogi-Hachiman Station in the Createur Building. Follow the stairs up to the 3rd floor and head to the door on your left. Remember to bring your laptop/dev setup.Suggested donation: 1000 yen (pay at the door) to cover food and drinks.
