Why do people burn joss paper in the streets and by the pavements? What is the meaning of the prayers and rituals done in public and in temples? Is there any truth to the taboos associated with the 7th Lunar Month? How much is based on religion and scripture, and how much is just superstition and hearsay? Journeys Pte Ltd, the management of Haw Par Villa, is organising a panel discussion with experts in Buddhism and Taoism, to shed light on an oft-misunderstood practice - the observation of the 7th Lunar Month in Singapore. The moderated session will clear misconceptions and correct perspectives about a very public festival which has a significant impact on Singapore’s religious landscape.
