They ushered Japan into a new epoch. However, the fact that Chinese were onboard the American vessels is seldom acknowledged. In this presentation, I unearth the story of the Chinese who travelled with Commodore Perry and Consul-General Harris to Bakumatsu Japan. I point out how these Chinese represent the beginning of a new trend of Chinese migration to modern Japan.1:40 pm - "A Realist Explanation for War and Peace in International Relations" by de Soete Francois, Associate Professor <Societies/Politics>This lecture will give students an opportunity to learn about realism, which is the oldest and arguably most influential international relations theoretical perspective. Though international relations theory today features many different perspectives that reflect the numerous changes in the international order over the last century, realist perspectives continue to offer thought-provoking explanations for the current world order and the looming conflicts that threaten international security. Several variations of realist thought have emerged since the end of the Second World War, but for the sake of simplicity this lecture will focus on the core premises that underlie all realist perspectives. 2:20 pm - "Business and Society Go Hand in Hand" by Akhter Taslima, Assistant Professor <Economics/Management>Business is part of society and involves in ongoing exchanges with its outside environment. Business and society together, create an interactive social system in which the actions of one deeply influence the other. The success of business largely depends on understanding the relationship between business and society. We know that the main mission of business is to earn profit for its survival and its owners. However, in today’s world, business also creates values for other relevant parties as well, such as employees, customers, suppliers, or communities. This lecture is designed to understad the relationship between business and society and the ways in which business and society are part of an interactive system. We will focus on the role of business in the society, concept of stakeholders, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).●3:00 pm - Talk Session with current students of English-based Degree ProgramFacilitator: Miyata Yukio, SIS Dean Updates tag:peatix.com,2022-08-02 01:35:20 2022-08-02 01:35:20 イベント詳細情報を更新しました。 Diff#1244399
