In his seminal work, Leviathan, Hobbes envisions life for human beings in the “state of nature,” which is a hypothetical scenario where there is no government or authority of any kind. The state of nature, according to Hobbes, would be a “war of all against all,” and life would be “nasty, brutish, and short.” As this lecture will explain, Hobbes outlines a hypothetical social contract that would allow people to escape this terrible hypothetical state of existence, and in doing so, Hobbes puts forth a rudimentary basis for what makes government authority over a country’s citizens legitimate in the real world. This lecture will then examine a few other early variations of social contract theory to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the version outlined in Leviathan. 2:20 pm - "Development Studies in Globalized World " by Sapkota Jeet, Associate Professor <Economics/Management>As a multidisciplinary subject, the scope and importance of development studies are growing. Our world is globalizing rapidly, and knowledge of development principles, policies, and prospects are indispensable to solve many problems at the local to the global level. This short lecture will first provide the basic concept and highlight some crucial aspects of development. Then, it will highlight the major factors or determinants of development. The lecture will conclude with key observations.●3:00 pm - Talk Session with current students of English-based Degree ProgramFacilitator: Miyata Yukio, SIS Dean Updates tag:peatix.com,2022-08-02 01:34:30 2022-08-02 01:34:30 イベント詳細情報を更新しました。 Diff#1244398 Updates tag:peatix.com,2022-08-02 01:33:23 2022-08-02 01:33:23 イベント詳細情報を更新しました。 Diff#1244396
