We sincerely apologize that we are unable to accommodate visitors with limited mobility or those using strollers, etc. 【開催概要】布施琳太郎による過去最大規模のキュレーション展『惑星ザムザ』が、新宿区に位置する製本印刷工場跡地の広大な敷地を会場として開催されます。The largest-ever curation exhibition "Planet Zamza" by Rintaro Fuse will be held at the vast site of the former bookbinding printing factory located in Shinjuku Ward.東京では二年ぶりのキュレーション展となる『惑星ザムザ』は、「テキスト以前の物質」を出発点として、総勢17名の作品が展示されます。本展のタイトルは、110年前にフランツ・カフカによって執筆された小説『変身』の主人公グレゴール・ザムザの名前を引用し、名付けられました。極限までテキストにあふれ、善悪や虚実が混ざり合った今日の社会のなかで、インクや唾液、電気信号、埃、塩基配列などの物質を通じて、未来を遺し、書き、記し、物語り、撫で、描く方法が模索されます。新陳代謝する東京のなかで、迷路のように入り組んだ工場跡地を巡り、芸術作品と出会う体験は、展覧会の魅惑と可能性を再確認する機会となるでしょう。The first curated exhibition in Tokyo in two years, "Planet Samsa" takes "Matter Before Text" as its starting point and features works by a total of 17 artists.The title of this exhibition is named after Gregor Samsa, the protagonist of the novel "Metamorphosis" written by Franz Kafka 110 years ago. "Planet Samsa" appears on all six floors of a former bookbinding factory building located in Shinjuku City. The observation of this exhibition will restore the memory of our isolated existence, unconnected to anything else.　In every age, history and reality have been reorganized and transformed again and again into forms that may or may not be possible, as they are altered, retold, and depicted by people's imagination. This alteration is the most intelligent and complex activity possible for human beings. However, in today's extremely information-oriented society, the reconstruction of history and reality is no longer the prerogative of scholars, artists, or politicians. The endless text of words and images woven by anonymous people creates, in each situation, a discourse that transcends falsity and reality with unbridled freedom.　That is why "Planet Samsa" starts its thinking from the material before the text. It is to seek the basis for the creation of a work of art from materials such as ink, saliva, paper, flickers, lines, faces, electrical signals, vibrations, and air, rather than from bookish reason. The purpose of "Planet Samsa" is to observe the situation in which these materials begin their selfish biological activity without reaching a consistent text or context.　Samsa is the name of the main character in the novel "Metamorphosis," written 110 years ago by Franz Kafka. One morning, Samsa wakes up and finds himself an ugly worm. His family takes care of him, based on their memories of their past family, but what awaits them is endless isolation.　The reason why this exhibition, set in a former bookbinding factory, takes "Metamorphosis" as its motif is because it is a story of oscillation between cloth and thread. Samsa was a textile salesman before. Textile is the root of the word "text". And textile is made of woven threads. What I would like to glimpse in this exhibition is the story of the continuous failure of woven threads to become a piece of fabric.　I want to think about the future through these failures. I want to think about the future of the society we live in, on a planet where many different materials form an unfamiliar shape. What texts can be written there, what stories can be told, what dreams can be dreamed?As a journey toward that end, I hereby present "Planet Samsa".Rintaro Fuse 【あいさつ】新宿区のこの周辺には出版社が多く、古くより印刷工場・製本所の街として栄えていました。このビルも製本工場の跡地です。昭和20年代からの都市計画道路に面しており、計画に含まれる建築部分は数年前に切り離され、大久保通りから見える荒々しいコンクリート部が切断による痕跡です。一か月後には建物のリニューアルが開始され、数ヶ月後には次の印刷業が稼働します。変わらず存在する建築物という個体に対して、都市計画や不動産価値など人間の営みによって取り巻く環境はめまぐるしく変わり、その環境に建築が対応していく様は、新陳代謝を繰り返す東京の象徴です。そして印刷業界も紙からデジタルへと大きな転換期を迎えており、印刷業者が減るこの街は印刷工場等で使われていた建築が別用途として再利用され街を変えています。今回の美術展示はこの建築の変わり目の隙間の中で数日間開催されます。美術を通して十数名のアーティスト達がそれぞれの思想を提示します。その思想達を包括したこの建築で、都市の在り方にも考えを及ぼす機会を提示したいと考えこの美術展を開催致しました。（文＝株式会社ユニーク工務店・リレーションシップ）There are many publishing companies in this area of Shinjuku City, and the area has long flourished as a town of printing factories and bookbinders. This building is also the site of a former bookbinding factory. It faces an urban planning road from the 1945's. The building part included in the plan was detached a few years ago, and the rough concrete part visible from Okubo-dori is the trace from the cutting. After a month, the renewal of the building will begin, and in a few months the next printing business will be in operation. While the building itself remains unchanged, the environment surrounding it changes rapidly due to human activities such as urban planning and real estate values, and the way the architecture responds to this environment is a symbol of Tokyo's repeated metabolism. The printing industry is also undergoing a major transition from paper to digital, and in this city where the number of printers is decreasing, buildings that were once used for printing factories are being reused for other purposes and changing the city.This art exhibition will be held for 8 days in the gap between these architectural changes. More than a dozen artists will present their ideas through art. We have organized this exhibition in the hope that this architecture, which encompasses these ideas, will provide an opportunity for people to think about the state of the city.Unique Koumuten Relationship
