the call to arms during the Trojan War saw Odysseus leaving his son in the
guardianship of a trusted friend, Mentor. Since then, the term “mentor” has
generally been defined to imply teacher, adviser, guide, counsellor, role
model, sponsor, advocate and champion (Garvey, Stokes & Megginson, 2009).
From earlier
conversations with new faculty, we have noted their desire for mentors to
jump-start teaching and learning at NAFA. Some colleagues appreciated senior
staff who went an extra mile to share their experiences and guide them in their
first weeks. This guidance is especially cherished by new academic colleagues
who do not have much teaching experience.
You are warmly invited to join us
in a dialogue to foster closer collegiate cultures through formal and informal
mentoring opportunities.*This session is for NAFA staff only
