Price tags fail to reflect the social and environmental cost of production, while as consumers, we don’t always care for our clothes in the way we should. We need to scrutinise what it is we’re really paying for. Throughout Fashion Revolution Week, we want to reimagine the values at the heart of a new fashion system by educating our global community on the real value of what we buy and wear. - Fashion Revolution 2022 Menders' Studio Did you know that Singapore had a flourishing manufacturing industry in the 1970s? Unfortunately, this slowly dissolved as we moved towards a knowledge-based economy in the 1990s. Within our school syllabus, textile and material knowledge has largely been lost both due to its perceived femininity and domesticity, as well as by planned obsolescence in fashion design. The ‘Home Economics with A Stubborn Bloom’ installation will revisit the wisdom of garment care in Home Economics textbooks utilised in Singapore in the 1970s. Accompanying the installation will be a communal mending studio with reference materials and menders. We hope to gather as a community of clothing lovers who want to share life skills and materials. You are invited to bring along a garment (or shoe) that you would like to try your hand at mending and to exchange tips and skills. Our special guest Lisa Teng, of Lisa Teng Studios, will also be present to share shoe care tips and know-hows, and short consultations on how to repair your shoes. With this session, we hope to promote mending as a caring and creative act against disposability. Sign ups are strongly encouraged but walk-ins are welcome too. Let’s mend together! All garment and shoe questions are welcomed.Checklist  Novice & Experienced Mender: A mending project you’ve wanted to complete Your mending tools to share and to use New Mender: Feel free to bring an item you’ve wanted to mend or repair An open and porous mind  About Lisa Teng Lisa Teng from Lisa Teng Studios is a footwear designer, maker and leather worker and has been holding regular shoemaking workshops for years.
