cont·act Contemporary Dance Festival returns with a refreshed name and identity for its 12th edition! The newly stylised name of “cont·act” – meaning “continued act” – encapsulates the Festival’s enduring commitment to contribute to the local contemporary dance landscape, and renewed vigour in celebrating dance as a bridging force of experiences and perspectives. This year’s eclectic mixed bill is equal parts contemplative, playful and indignant as artists reflect on the global events that have transpired, and prospect the future ahead. 20 & 21 June 2022, 8pm @ T.H.E Dance Company Studio Off Stage is a nest for the “what ifs” that occur in the experimentation and research stages of a creation process, as artists ruminate on, develop, and test their ideas at an intimate works-in-progress studio sharing. 24 & 25 June 2022, 8pm @ Esplanade Theatre Studio Caino e Abele #1 (Corpo a Corpo) by Compagnia Danza Zappalà (Italy) brings a unique blend of dance and boxing to the stage, infused with Roberto Zappalà’s choreographic sensitivity to contemporary social issues. 24 – 26 June 2022, 7pm & 8.30pm @ Esplanade Outdoor Theatre A family-friendly series of contemporary dance works for the young and old alike, perfect whether it is your first or nth contemporary dance experience. 27 June 2022 & 1 July 2022, 8pm @ T.H.E Dance Company/ Dance Nucleus Studio Gathering in Singapore after meeting on Zoom last year, artists from the 3-year incubation platform Grey Space present their ideas, explorations and curiosities in their research and collaboration processes thus far. 13 June – 2 July 2022, Various timings @ T.H.E Dance Company/ Dance Nucleus Studio Our Festival classes are a great way to expand your dance practice, or to make your first foray into contemporary dance. Meet our Festival artists, and gain insight into their artistic philosophies as they share their experiences, practices and tools. 22 – 25 June 2022, 10am – 4pm @ T.H.E Dance Company Studio This is a four-day intensive, with 5 hours of technique, improvisation and repertoire classes each day.
