Sing Lit has weaved its way into multiple planes of existence, with many titles being adapted into films, television series and video games. How does this literary multiverse influence the way that stories are told and books are published? What are some of the trends and what does it spell for the future of Sing Lit? Join moderator Chong Lingying and panellists Balli Kaur Jaswal, Suffian Hakim and Lee Thean-jeen as they discuss their experience with adapting Sing Lit.This event is part of the Sing Lit Blk Party. It is a hybrid session with opportunities for physical attendance or to watch via  a livestream on Sing Lit Station's Facebook Live.Physical attendees will be emailed a packet of short pre-readings submitted by the panelists. They are strongly advised to engage with the material and come with questions.About the Panel:Chong Lingying is a publisher, editor and writer. She manages Asiapac Books, a Singaporean publishing house specialising in illustrated content and educational comics. She is a co-founder of COMIX.SG, an online home for Singapore’s comics community. Balli Kaur Jaswal is the author of four novels, including Singapore Literature Prize finalist Sugarbread, and the international bestseller Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows. Jaswal's non-fiction has appeared in the New York Times, Harper's Bazaar and Salon.com, among other publications. Currently a lecturer in Humanities at Yale-NUS College, she is preparing for the 2023 release of her upcoming novel. Lee Thean-jeen is one of the most prolific writer-directors and showrunners working in the Singapore media industry today. During his near-three-decades-long career, he has adapted many Singapore short stories, novels and plays into feature films (“Bring Back The Dead,” from the short story by Wong Swee Hoon), telemovies (“Gone Case,” from the novel by Dave Chua), and short films. His most recent adaptation is the television drama series, “This Land Is Mine,” from the novel by Walter Woon.Suffian Hakim is a Singaporean author, screenwriter and media professional, described by The Straits Times as “one of the most whimsical, creative and unpretentious young voices in Singapore literature”. His works include the number one national bestseller, Harris bin Potter and The Stoned Philosopher, the critically acclaimed supernatural comedy The Minorities and the 2021 Popular Readers Choice Awards nominee, The Keepers of Stories. He also co-wrote the national bestselling manga, White Coat Tales, with National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. A regular at industry and literary festivals, Suffian holds the honour of being the first Singaporean to speak at the Cairo Literature Festival in Egypt. Outside of his authorial career, Suffian is also a screenwriter, having written for Mediacorp programmes The Noose, Random Island, Mr Kiasu 2.0 and Amaranthine.
