Come hear our panelists discuss climate grief, target audiences and their visions for the environment and local arts scene in the next 5 years. Join moderator Carolyn Oei for an engaged discussion with Esther Vincent, Robert Zhao Renhui and Ang Xiao Ting on how the arts can respond to the realities of a warmer world.This event is part of the Sing Lit Blk Party. It is a hybrid session with opportunities for physical attendance or to watch via a livestream on Sing Lit Station's Facebook Live.Physical attendees will be emailed a packet of short pre-readings submitted by the panelists. They are strongly advised to engage with the material and come with questions. About the Panel:Carolyn Oei is a writer, editor and educator. As a reader, she enjoys stories about strong women, amazing animals and one-pot wonders. As a writer, she focuses on non-fiction work, which includes three e-books commissioned by Ethos Books for the SG Bicentennial. In 2015, she co-founded Mackerel, an online culture magazine, with Marc Nair. She writes and produces podcasts, op-eds and book reviews. Environmental issues are important to Carolyn and she tries her best to do her part through her own lifestyle habits and participation in education and discourse. At the 2020 Singapore Writers Festival, Carolyn moderated a panel discussion entitled, "All Writing Is Environmental", featuring Camille Dungy, Diana Rahim and Matthew Schneider-Mayerson. Carolyn teaches in the Arts Management department at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.Esther Vincent Xueming is the author of Red Earth (Blue Cactus Press, 2021), which was a finalist for the 2020 Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize. She is the editor-in-chief and founder of The Tiger Moth Review, an independent eco journal of art and literature based in Singapore. She is also co-editor of Making Kin: Ecofeminist Essays from Singapore (Ethos Books, 2021) and two poetry anthologies, Poetry Moves (Ethos Books, 2020) and Little Things (Ethos Books, 2013). Robert Zhao Renhui (b. 1983, Singapore) is a multi-disciplinary artist and the founder of the Institute of Critical Zoologists. His artistic practice addresses the human relationship with nature. His work has been exhibited in international group shows such as Busan Biennale 2020; Singapore Biennale 2019; Asia Pacific Triennial, Queensland, Australia, 2018; Jiwa: Jakarta Biennale, Indonesia, 2017; 7th Moscow Biennale, Russia, 2017; 20th Sydney Biennale, Australia 2016; Les Recontres d’Arles, France, 2015. As a hyphenated theatre practitioner who wears many hats, Ang Xiao Ting (angxiaoting.com) is a director, actor, dramaturg, programmer and interdisciplinary collaborator. Her practice is informed by the intersection of theatre/performance with field research and community collaboration to advocate for social innovation and change. Her current focus involves creating Eco-Theatre works, such as ‘Poppy’, ‘Recess Time’ (Practice Tuckshop) and most recently ‘Extinction Feast’ (Singapore Writers’ Festival). In 2021, ‘Recess Time’ was shortlisted out of over 700 applications to be featured in the 2021 Social Art Award Book (Berlin). Implementation of Safe Management Measures:1.
