179 Piccadilly TourDate: 12*, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 February, and 5, 6* March 2022Time: 10am – 11.30am, 2pm – 3.30pm(* Afternoon session only)179 Piccadilly was the Station Headquarters and one of the earliest permanent buildings at Royal Air Force (RAF) Seletar. During the Second World War, the squadrons of planes based at RAF Seletar defended Malaya and Singapore, and the building was targeted by Japanese air raids on the airbase. It was subsequently occupied by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service during the Japanese Occupation. This tour of 179 Piccadilly will uncover the lesser-known stories of the airbase, including Singapore’s pre-war aviation history as well as the role of the RAF and the dynamics of airpower in the lead up to the Battle of Singapore.This tour is led by Dr John Kwok and conducted in partnership with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).Transport will be provided from a MRT station located nearby to the site and back. More details on the gathering point will be sent to participants before the tour. All participants must gather at the gathering point at the MRT station and take the shuttle bus as part of the tour.About the GuideDr John Kwok is a professional historian and has been part of the Battle for Singapore initiative since 2014. His research has helped to uncover the history of many war heritage sites in Singapore like Marsiling Tunnels and Attap Valley Bunker. In previous Battle for Singapore programmes, he conducted war heritage tours at the Former Admiralty House, Former View Road Hospital, and Fort Siloso in Sentosa.  Note: Any child participant of/under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Ensure that you are appropriately attired as a fair amount of walking is involved. Bring an umbrella or poncho in case of wet weather. There are no toilet facilities at the tour venue. Please use the toilet before gathering. All participants must abide by prevailing COVID-19 Safe Management Measures.
