This concert showcases a range of contemporary Chinese violin-viola duos, placing them in dialogue with each other and with a widely-acknowledged masterwork of the repertory- Bohuslav Martinů's Three Madrigals. Two works by renowned Chinese-American composers Bright Sheng and Chen Yi are counterposed against newly commissioned pieces by Singaporean Chinese composers Lee Jia Yi and Joseph Lim Soon Keong. Taken together, they present complex and different takes on Chinese culture in contemporary society, which are nonetheless informed in different ways by experiences of "the West". Concert attendees are cordially invited to an online post-concert dialogue on 1st May 2022 9pm with composers Lee Jiayi and Joseph Lim on Zoom, where we revisit eclipse and Horse Horse Tiger Tiger, and chat about their inspirations, compositional process and more! Unfortunately, Pre-Event Testing (PET) results will no longer be accepted. No children below the age of 6 will be admitted. Please bring along proof of child’s age, such as a student concession pass, as random checks may be conducted at the venue. Refunds will not be granted to ticket-holders who do not meet these admission requirements.All ticket holders are required to check in to SafeEntry through either scanning the QR code using the TraceTogether App on their phone, or by presenting their TraceTogether to be scanned, with a valid photo ID. Latecomers will only be admitted at suitable breaks, if any. No changing of seats allocated is allowed. We reserve the right to ask parents to bring children out of the hall should they be disruptive during the performance.
