This workshop will start off with a presentation on the letterpress printing process and its history in Singapore. They will also be introduced to the process of block printing with a printing press, as well as the tools and equipment used. Participants will get to print their own red packets with a proofing press. Furthermore, they will have the chance to experience the traditional woodblock printing technique and style using a baren with an A6 sized printing kit. There will also be a station with some letterpress reading materials for participants waiting for their turn.Conducted by: Sun Yao Yu Sun Yao Yu is a traditional letterpress printer and the founder of Typesettingsg. What started off as a personal passion project is now an education setup that aims to promote and preserve traditional letterpress printing, focussing on handset types for printing – which is the underlying foundation for typography and graphic design.
