What pathways lie beyond the traditional practices of graphic designers, photographers, illustrators and marketeers? In this session, our three speakers will share their stories about how they confronted the confines of their stereotypical job roles within the design industry, each venturing into a new uncomfortable frontier. Dilys, from being a photographer to a photo editor; Tiffany, from an industrial designer to a textile artist; Pamm, a graphic designer to a multidisciplinary artist.Join us for this sharing session that we hope will inspire you to venture into new territories especially if you are feeling stifled or siloed in your job.Bios:DILYS NG is a Singaporean photo editor based in New York. She is currently a photo editor at TIME where she oversees the culture and entertainment pages. Previously, she was the founding editor of Galavant Magazine and has worked for VICE, Slow and Steady Wins the Race and the Singapore International Photography Festival in varying capacities. Her roles as photo editor and producer have contributed to projects in TIME, The New Yorker, VICE and the Museum of Modern Art PS1 among others.—TIFFANY LOY was trained in industrial design at National University of Singapore. Her current work revolves around industrial craft, surface design, and material exploration. She is interested in exploring alternative production methods, as well as the use of existing processes to generate unexpected results. Having worked with a variety of media such as timber, laminates, textiles, and print, Tiffany has kept a constant emphasis on learning through making, and an interdisciplinary approach to all projects. Since the set-up of her studio in 2013, Tiffany has exhibited her experimental works at museums in Singapore, Kyoto, and Milan. Her approach to design is focused on materials, fabrication, and the experience of the physical object. —PAMM HONG is a Singaporean designer, visual artist and DJ living between London and Berlin. She graduated from the MA Material Futures course at Central Saint Martins, London. In 2016, She was listed as a 'Top 20 Disruptor' and 'One to Watch' by The Future Laboratory. Her work has been published on Dezeen, Frame, Huffington Post and exhibited on a global stage with LS:N Global and Most Contagious.In 2018, she will be debuting her app in development called [ Watermelon Sugar ] at the Sydney Design Festival and will also be keynote speaker.—Moderator: PRISCILLA LUI is one half of Studio Juju, founded to practice design across disciplines in furniture, products and spaces.The studio’s approach is fresh and optimistic, and each project is a union of simplicity and warmth, functionalism and whimsy, refinement and relevance.Studio Juju has been honoured “Designers of the Future” by Design Miami/ in 2011, and the Singapore President’s Design Award for Design of the Year in 2014.—All visuals by PAMM
