Forum Theatre is an interactive theatre that involves the audience in developing real-time strategies for dealing with social and personal issues. The audience will be presented with an “anti modal”, where scenarios are played out to depict characters encountering challenges that they are unable to overcome. The story is then presented again—only this time, audience members can intervene in the story, as “spect-actors,” to create a positive alternative ending. A facilitator (called a “Joker” in Forum Theatre conventions) prepares and encourages participants to engage in discussions, interact with the characters and, when appropriate, replace the actors and change the story in a constructive way.Man-Made explores the themes of gender roles, social constructs, patriarchy and allyship. We aim to investigate the different possibilities of how men can thrive in modern society, and to challenge the stereotypes and behavioural norms that are harmful. Will boys always be boys? Or can they change?How do we hold space for men to embrace vulnerability?What can healthy masculinities look like?What can allyship look like?About sgMANSingapore Male Allyship Network (sgMAN) is a ground-up initiative that invites boys and men to embark on a learning journey to understand what it means to be men in the 21st century.
