SG Discovery Walking Trail: From 3rd to 1st World Nation
The World’s Worst Slums… A disgrace to the civilised community… Squalid, ramshackle, grossly overcrowded… What on Earth is a place like this that existed 70 years ago?
Unbelievably, these were words to describe Singapore in 1947.
Fast forward… Today, Singapore had achieved international accolades for outstanding human settlement projects for the World to replicate.
How did Singapore do it in such a short time? What were the drive forces? What were the lessons learnt? Join us for this trail, as our captain will relive fascination stories of national transformation.
We first start
off at Telok Ayer
Street which was also once the old shoreline of Singapore. This adventure
includes a local food tasting session at Maxwell Food Centre, stopovers at some
of the oldest temples in Singapore, a bird’s eye view of the city’s
transformation at the Singapore City Gallery, and a peek into the crooks and
crannies of buzzling Chinatown – all explored through the eyes of a passionate
local guide. Get a feel of the uniquely Singapore heartbeat, sample the sights
and sounds, and experience that tinge of nostalgia as we tell you those untold
stories. This is a trip that even Singaporeans should not miss and we look
forward to seeing you!
