The Gifu Ogaki Biennale 2021 International Symposium will be held online from Friday, December 17 to Sunday, December 19, 2021. This year's Biennale theme, “LIFE!? - The partially living, extreme biologies and alien life” brings together new approaches in art, philosophy, biology, chemistry and astrobiology, aiming to go beyond modern and postmodern thinking about “the living”.2021年12月17日（金）から19日（日）まで、「岐阜おおがきビエンナーレ2021」国際シンポジウムをオンラインで開催します。今年のビエンナーレのテーマである「LIFE! - 部分的に生きているもの、エクストリーム・バイオロジー、エイリアン生命」では、アート、哲学、生物学、化学、宇宙生物学などの新しいアプローチを集め、「生きているもの」についての近代的、ポストモダン的な思考を超えることを目指しています。 SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19｜12月19日（日）SESSION 3: ALIEN LIFEセッション 3：「エイリアン生命」The case for unfamiliar forms of life on our planet and beyond remains provocatively open. The ongoing discovery of microorganisms in some of the most extreme environments on Earth are reinforcing the perception that life as we know it is ubiquitous and more robust than previously thought. On the other hand, the universe is thought to contain more than 100 billion galaxies; each galaxy having around 100 billion stars. The scientific evidence suggests that not only are there various worlds capable of sustaining life as we know it, but also exotic planets and moons where “weird life” could potentially exist. The discovery of an alien form of life will have deep epistemological, ontological and ethical implications. It will profoundly change our conception of the living and place in the universe. But how can we go in quest of ‘others’ that bear no resemblance to terrestrial life?This session gathers artists and scientists to discuss critical issues pertaining to astrobiology, space exploration and alien life. In this session, we will look at the profusion of new evidence both for and against unfamiliar forms of life and why it is central to our understanding of the living.
