Since the time of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., early Muslims have lived harmoniously in Habsyah alongside other majority faith communities. We can learn from this rich history for us to apply when facing the challenges of the contemporary world today and aspire to be our best and role model for others. Join us in this retreat as we explore lessons from our history and become confident contributive Muslims today. Speaker 1: “The Meaning of Global Ummah”• The characteristic of global ummah based on Islamic civilisation perspective.• Muslim minorities in Singapore as a branch of the global ummah, how the ummatic identity that we share are universal and the particularities that we have within our geopolitical context.• Misconception of the term ummah and the importance of not letting intra or interfaith diversity divide us as a community.• Why some minority Muslims face challenges in the present time and the importance of learning from our history on factors of why the early Muslims were able to live in harmony with other communities (e.g. Habsyah).Speaker 2: “Confident Contributive Muslims”• Highlight the importance of why we as minority Muslims as part of the global ummah need to be active contributors towards Singapore and globally, aligned with our identity.• Learning from our history the need to adapt and be agile to thrive in changing environments and grapple with emerging issues based on sound principles and references.• Becoming a model of success with a wasatiy approach for other minority Muslim communities living in plural societies around the globe.
