Especially for visitors to Singapore who may be looking for something interesting to do after the Christmas festivities, we're offering a "Tuesday" tour on a Wednesday!We'll firstly explore the historic Civic District with its beautiful and impressive colonial buildings - including the Fullerton Building (the old General Post Office), the National Gallery (former Supreme Court & City Hall buildings), the Asian Civilisations Museum, the Victoria Concert Hall & Theatre and the Arts House (the old Parliament building).You will learn about why, how and when Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in this sparely populated island in January 1819 to set up a trading post on behalf of the East India Company, his vision for its future and how he devised an early city plan.We will then cross the Cavenagh Bridge,the only suspension bridge in Singapore, made with strong Scottish steel. There you will learn about the importance of the Singapore River in our country's trading history.From there we'll walk from Boat Quay, once the hub of trade in Singapore, to Telok Ayer Street, where Singapore's coastline used to be before land reclamation. We'll visit the UNESCO awarded Wak Hai Cheng Bio and Thian Hock Keng temples – great examples of SEA temple architecture - as well as the Nagore Dargah Indian Muslim shrine to learn the importance of these places of worship to some the various communities which came here in the19th century.
