Musicians' Initiative presents a Full-Staged Opera Double Bill - featuring Gian Carlo Menotti's The Telephone and the premiere of an abridged version of Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème, arranged by Melvin Tay.The Telephone is a comic opera in one act by Menotti, that tells the tale of Ben visiting Lucy with the hope of proposing to her before his trip. However, despite his attempts to get her attention, she is always distracted by conversations on the telephone. Although first premiered in 1947, this conflict of technology bringing us closer yet also ironically pushing us apart is still so pertinent today. In this light-hearted tale, we will explore our relationship with technology by using technology such as mobile phones to reimagine a setting that is relevant to today.An abridged version of Puccini’s crowd pulling opera, La Bohème focuses on the relationship between Rodolfo and Mimi, ending with her death as she is slowly consumed by a deadly illness. Children below 12 years old may be exempted from PET. Limited number of such children will be admitted into the venue upon verification by our ushers at the door.#Full vaccination refers to:• two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty, Moderna or any COVID-19 vaccines under the World Health Organisation's (WHO) emergency use list• recovered from a COVID-19 infectionGuests must undergo Pre-Event Testing (PET), at their own cost, if they have not completed the full vaccination regimen at least 14 days prior to the performance date. Attendees taking PET must have a valid negative Antigen Rapid Test (ART) or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test result for the duration of the performance (i.e. the PET must have been taken in the past 24 hours before the expected end of the performance).According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), ART is recommended for Pre-Event Testing as it has a shorter turnaround time. With ART, attendees may be able to receive their results within an hour, whereas with a PCR test, the process can take up to 48 hours. Do note that no refunds will be given to those who are unable to attend the show due to delays at the test venue.Do bring along your negative PET test result notice, photo identification, and mobile device with updated TraceTogether (TT) app or token for SafeEntry check in. We regret that patrons who do not have their photo ID, the app or token will be denied entry.
