2017 Bike to the Beach

The only thing better than a summer ride with friends is one with a dip in the ocean at the end. We’ll meet in the morning in Park Slope, Brooklyn. After a short jaunt through beautiful Prospect Park, we will travel for several miles on the Ocean Parkway Bike path, the oldest in America. We will spend a couple of hours at Coney Island, where participants are free to relax at the beach, swim in the ocean, ride the historic Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster, or grab a hot dog at Nathan’s, a true NYC institution. Be sure to bring money for lunch and activities. Participants are free to join us for the ride back to Park Slope, or part ways and spend more time at Coney Island.

Where You Gotta Be: The West Drive entrance to Prospect Park across from Bartel-Pritchard Square at the intersection of Prospect Park West and Prospect Park South-West.
When You Gotta Be There: 10:00AM (returning by 3:00PM)
How Far You’re Gonna Go: 16 miles (round trip).
How Hard It’s Gonna Be: We’ll ride at a relaxed pace on mostly flat, low-traffic streets and bike paths, with a few stops along the way. Participants must have solid bike-handling skills, be able to ride in traffic, and be comfortable riding for several miles without stopping.
What You’re Gonna Get: Experienced ride leaders, and—of course—great company and good times!
What you Gotta Give: $20 non-members; $5 members. Registration is only available online, and closes at 12PM on Friday, June 2. Proceeds fund Bike New York’s free bike education programs.
What You Gotta Bring: Bike, helmet (no ifs, ands, or buts about it), water, sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing, cash for food and/or activities, and a sense of adventure! (Other suggested items: bike lock, spare tube, snacks, and a bag to store all of the above.)
