Labels
– we are all defined by them. Yet to what extent are these labels preconceived,
how much can we alter them and how ready is a society to accept one who
deviates from the norm?
The
story of Logan, Vimala and Arun is more than just a coming-of-age story. Centred
on the Singapore-Tamil diaspora, Pazhuppu (translated as “Brown”) explores the
impact of a society fraught with the labels of culture, gender and class. This
is a quest for power, liberation, progress and acceptance.
This is a
quest for an identity that is more than skin deep.ABOUT HYPORKITE
Hypokrite is RDG’s youth platform for young theatre practitioners
to gain experience, exposure and explore. Helmed by Artistic Director Ebi
Shankara, it consists of a group of passionate youth fired with enthusiasm to do something unique and dynamic for Tamil
Theatre. The group was formally known as Youth Drama Group and was renamed Ravindran Drama Group
(RDG) in memory of the late G. Ravindran. It was his vision, to keep Tamil
theatre alive, which sparked the formation of the group. It strives to bring
its vision of “discovering Indianness through World-Class theatre” in every
piece they put up.
