This event will now be held on 1 August from 3.30 - 5.30pm at Seletar Airport. The Singapore Committee for UN Women, in partnership with Dreams Soar and the United States Embassy in Singapore, is proud to be hosting Shaesta Waiz during her stopover in Singapore. At 29 years of age, Shaesta Waiz is the youngest certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan. Born in a refugee camp at the end of the Soviet war, she immigrated to the United States in 1987 where she discovered a passion for flying and obtained her pilot’s licence. Now, Waiz has embarked on an odyssey around the world in her Beechcraft Bonanza A36 aircraft. Her journey spans over 25,800 kilometres, 18 countries, including Spain, Egypt, India, Singapore and Australia. Backed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Waiz plans to hosts events during her 30 stopovers to encourage school children, particularly young girls, to explore science and aeronautics. Currently, the ICAO estimates that only 5% of commercial pilots are women. Waiz hopes to increase that number as her presence will surely be an affirmation to many young girls that, they too, have the potential for these careers. Come join us for an enriching discussion with Shaesta Waiz and learn more about her life and the aviation sector! This event is ideal for young girls below the age of 20 who are looking to be inspired to achieve new heights. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier for registration.Become a memberFind out about our other events
