But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.’We all have genius within us. Yet knowing you have a genius within doesn't make picking up a guitar or a paintbrush any easier. On the contrary, if we believe that "art" is for "artists" only, we live only as an observer and dreamer. On Monday night, you'll hear how these artists found their way to let art into their lives. Unique stories of self-expression, we promise you’ll leave inspired to unleash your own genius!OPEN MIC - Join us to share your genius with a warm and supportive crowd! A poem, a song, a cover of your favorite tune…we want to hear it! Just book your open mic spot here and Cynthia will reach out to you: http://goo.gl/forms/28h9fQk3OzfBTteZ2 Join us for a shot of creative inspiration, for soulful conversations with old and new friends over coffee/drinks, and for a night that’ll inspire you to unleash your own genius. Come alone, or bring friends. Either way, you’ll meet a new crowd to mingle with! And as always, feel free to join the artists afterwards to freestyle and create fun music on the fly!Modern life is rubbish. Modern life is confusing. Modern life is terrifying. Ian Tai sings songs about modern life, waxing lyrical over a trail of musical destruction stemming from his own life experiences and observations. No stone is left unturned as hipsters, zealots, ex-girlfriends and even the unsuspecting middle class populace are given a spotlight.Featured Acts:Fazil Mohamed FBringing back an open mic hit from January’s Unleash event, Fazil will be back to grace us with his wise words and guitar freestyling! About him, from him:“The first movie I remember watching as a kid was a musical and the sound totally mesmerised me. Ever since then music has always been a part of my journey.  Freestyle is something I acquired while learning the guitar. It's more honest to me and it doesn't let me think things through and say what's going on in my head right away. What excites me the most about music? The ability to tell a story in a short span of time and be able to have people engage with it. Every single moment in my life, whatever emotions I have, music has always a part of my journey. Even in terms of wanting to be a filmmaker, music is what helps me come up with stories. It's my greatest escape from everything going on around me.”(2) Aishah Soraya / song & guitar:Aisha captivated our ears and hearts when we heard her perform open mic at March’s Unleash event. She’s back now as a featured artist - and there is no doubt this tiny gal is a powerhouse! She describes herself as small, Beyonce lovin, emotional, and loves dinosaurs. Somehow during her studies she finds time to do what she’s so talented at - sing, play, and perform! What a treat we’ll get to see her back for a set! (3) Battle Bloom / Melissa Toh - Vocals / Fariz Salleh - Guitar / Dianne Lim - Vocals/Keys / Ryan Lee Bhaskaran - DrumsBattle Bloom is an acoustic/electric band hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The band members are Fariz Salleh (Guitar), Melissa Toh (Vocals), Dianne Lim (Keyboard and Vocals) and Ryan Lee Bhaskaran (Drums and Percussions). The band recently launched their debut Album 'Maps & Diagrams' on 12 April 2017 at Playspace LIVE. The anticipated six-track album produced by Angie Farr and Engineered by Melina Williams (of Tempered Mental fame), represents Battle Bloom’s various stages of growth and journey as a band.Formerly known as Saturday Afternoon, the band adopted the name Battle Bloom as a way of reconciling their differences in influences, backgrounds and personalities. Fariz’s metal inspired background merges with Melissa and Dianne’s more pop and folk-influenced stylings to create beautiful melodies out of the chaos of our time.Life, love and love lost are common themes explored in their music peppered with fresh summery vocals and lingering tunes.Since their inception, Battle Bloom have played at various shows around Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru such as Penang Island Jazz Festival, Guiness Amplify, Gegey Fest and Moonshine. The band was also honoured at being the opening act for Norwegian musician Erlend Øye & The Rainbows (of Kings of Convenience and The Whitest Boy Alive fame) as they stopped in Malaysia for their Asia Tour in 2015. Battle Bloom was also featured in the September 2015 issue of JUICE magazine, and in an April 2017 article in MalaysianDigest.comFor more info on upcoming gigs and appearances, visit www.battlebloom.com.
