Following the fun Saturday at Chinese Heritage Centre last month, we are set to learn about Peranakan heritage! 'Peranakan’ refers to ‘local born’ or ‘local descendants’. Th local people of the Straits Settlement and Malay Archipelagos used this term to address foreign immigrants whom established families and businesses in the Straits of Southeast Asia. It is said that a large part of Peranakan customs comes from traditional beliefs inherited from their Chinese ancestors. Their strict observance of these beliefs sometimes supplants even the Chinese themselves.Join us in this discovery! About Peranakan Heritage MuseumThe old Tao Nan School, a Chinese school, was converted into Asian Civilisation Museum and then later became Peranakan Museum, to showcase the eclectic Peranakan culture.
