Step back to a time when CHIJMES was a peaceful oasis, occupied by French nuns dedicated to girls' education and the abandoned babies left to their care. A time when the La Salle Brothers founded Singapore's earliest Roman Catholic church, next to which Indian convicts built their prison. A time when an ambitious Irish architect left his everlasting imprint on this fledgling colony. Discover the rich tapestry of the Waterloo Street arts precinct, a small but vibrant area which is emblematic of Singapore's cultural and religious diversity. Here you'll find a Synagogue, a Roman Catholic church, a Buddhist and a Hindu Temple, as well as a calligraphy centre, dance studio, visual arts centre, street art and much more. Small Group Walking tours have a maximum of 10 participants but also need a minimum number of 7 to go ahead; if we don't have enough people we will inform those who have registered (& refund their payment) by the evening before at the very latest. But we hope they will always run!!Please note that the cost of these tours is a little higher as we keep the number small. The quality will be however very high; see comments below from our last one at the end of January which was a prototype for this new series:"I would like to thank you for the tour yesterday, it’s been a wonderful morning! Your guide is amazing and so expert about history"."I just wanted to let you know that my aunt had a brilliant time yesterday. She couldn't say enough about the tour and how great your guide was. Thanks so much! I will certainly recommend you"."Your guide was WONDERFUL! We all enjoyed her. I'm looking forward to the next tour."
