Proceeds from this workshop goes to the local communities, whom we engaged for accommodation, transportation and nature guiding. Where is Kinabatangan? What is so special about this place?The location is in the eastern side of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The nearest airport is Sandakan, 45 minutes flight from Kota Kinabalu, capital of Sabah. How to get there? There are daily flight from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu and return via Silkair or Air Asia. It is also possible to fly from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur then connect a direct flight to Sandakan. Highlight:Learn to photograph nature in its natural space Search for endangered and endemic species such as Proboscis Monkeys, Orang Utans, Bornean Gibbons and Borneon Elephants in their natural habitat along Sabah's longest river, the Kinabatangan and its floodplainAcquire insight of the Kinabatangan - Rasig project, join the project staff on their typical day on siteTrek with the project team on the Borneo Pygmy Elephants' migration path to understand the behaviour of these large mammalsBe it for work, school project or take home message, you get to learn how to tell a story through photography that gives an impact to the importance of nature conservationPrice: SGD 550.00 per person (twin sharing)Group size: Minimum 4 persons to go, Maximum 8 personsPrice includes: Private transportation from Sandakan airport to the village of Sukau, 3 nights at bed and breakfast (air conditioned room with attached bathroom) run by local communities, meals as stated, all entrance and conservation fees to sites indicated in the itinerary, private boat, RASIG project English speaking naturalist and lead photographer.Price excludes: Airfare, airport tax, camera and video fees, beverages at mealtime, laundry, tips to guide and drivers and personal travel insurance. The following is the brief outline of the programme. The full programme can be viewed on my website with several other departure dates until October.Programme:Day 1: Arrive Sandakan, you will be met by Caroline and the project team - Sepilok Orang UtanRehabilitation Centre - Borneo SunBear Conservation Centre - Gomantong Cave - Sukau. Orientation of wildlife, their plight and photographing them in the centre. (L, D)Note: Please book on the first flight to Sandakan from Kota Kinabalu. Arriving Sandakan before 8.30 am.Day 2: Orientation cruise in the morning - trekking in the Kinabatangan-Rasig project site - afternoon river to search and photograph for wildlife - night cruises to search for nocturnal animals (B, L, D)Note: 1) Wildlife sighting is not guaranteed. This is their natural habitat and not a zoo. They roam freely in the wild.2) Trekking is not allowed if elephants are within or near the vicinity of Kinabatangan-Rasig site. Day 3: Sukau - cruise to the estuary of Kinabatangan river to discover the mangrove swamp forest and wildlife. Stop at Abai, a village at the estuary which is non-accessible by road. Photograph village life. - Later in the evening, slowly cruise back to Sukau with possibility to view more wildlife along the way. (B, L, D)Day 4: Sukau - Departure.
