Renowned short story writer Jayanthi Sankar will conduct an intensive workshop on short story writing. The possibilities of answers to the following questions will be explored during the session: Who are we writing short stories for? Why do we write them? What are the general intentions for writing short stories? Who should the short story attract? The one who writes or the one who would read it? Should I have my reader in mind while writing a short story? To what extent? In theme or form? How does a short story transcend beyond the square? What is that square? By that transcending, how does the short story strongly reaffirms its place? How does observing the trends of contemporary short stories help us in improving our works? Why are focus and effort in continuous reading very important? What is Singapore fiction? What are the features we need to pay attention to while writing local issues, social problems in fiction?பயிலரங்கு நடத்துபவரைப் பற்றி சில வார்த்தைகள்:உலகளாவிய பரந்துபட்ட வாசகர்களைப் பெற்றுள்ள ஜெயந்தி சங்கர் எழுதியுள்ள 35க்கும் அதிகமான நூல்கள் ஒவ்வொரு நூலும் ஒவ்வொரு வகையில் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்தது. இடிதெய்வத்தின் பரிசு என்ற சிறார் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு நூலுக்கு ஆனந்தவிகடன் விருது2016 உள்ளிட்ட பல பரிசுகளும் விருதுகளும் வாங்கியுள்ளார். 1995 முதல் எழுதி வரும் இவரது ஆக்கங்கள் வேற்று மொழியில், குறிப்பாக ஆங்கிலம், ரஷ்யமொழி மற்றும் ஹிந்தியில் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு கண்டுள்ளன. 2016ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதத்தொடங்கியுள்ளார்.About the Facilitator: Jayanthi Sankar has been creatively active for the past twenty-one years in short stories, novels, translation and essays. Several of her books have been awarded by renowned organisations. Her short story “Read Singapore”, published in the quarterly magazine Ceriph – ISSUE TWO – 2010, has been included in the anthology The Epigram Books Collection of Best New Singaporean Short Stories: Volume One. The same short story was translated to be included in the Russian anthology: To Go to S'pore, contemporary writing from Singapore, edited by Kirill Cherbitski. She has started writing more in English in recent years. Having written primarily in Tamil, she has authored more than 35 books. Three of her short story collections have been shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize. Her works have been published by several magazines such as The Wagon and in opinion. ​She has a unique interest in other cultures, especially the Chinese culture. She has been invited to participate in panel discussions in various festivals including Singapore Writers Festival and Seemanchal International Literary Festival.
