What is jazz? How did it start? Why did it become so popular? These are some of the questions that we will discuss in this seminar. Traveling from Africa, to New Orleans, to New York and then to the world, we will trace the history, stylistic transformations and key figures in jazz.
ジャズとは何でしょうか？いつ始まったのでしょうか？なぜ人気になったのでしょうか？このセミナーではこういった議題で話し合います。アフリカ、ニューオリンズ、ニューヨーク、そして世界の歴史・スタイルの変化・ジャズの重要人物をめぐっていきましょう。
The seminar will include a lot of listening to significant recordings, as well as explanations of the background to the various stylistic shifts and biographies of the musicians. You will have a chance to discuss your experience of jazz and your responses to the music, as well as gaining an insight into why jazz is such a unique musical art form.
