There is nothing like a solo performance which one experiences in the
theatre. The immediacy of hearing a
personal narrative in the intimacy of a small space is stunning. The ability of
a single artist to captivate and hold an audience is one of the great
performing traditions.
The Faculty of Performing Arts has assembled an extraordinary group of
writers and performers with stories that open hearts, stimulate minds and lift
spirits. These artists inhabit their work with directness and honesty, stripping
down the act of theatre-making to its bare essence.
SOLO celebrates their skills, with performances including spoken word,
theatre, song, intimate performance and dance – through a variety of one-person
shows. SOLO explores and celebrates the
uniqueness of the individual.
The School of Dance & Theatre produces SOLO as an annual event to give
young performers graduating from BA(Hons) Acting and BA(Hons) Musical Theatre programmes (and alumni) the
opportunity to workshop their ideas for solo performances, reach out to
industry and receive early career attention and audience feedback.
