He is also a lecturer at KDU University College. During this session, he will talk about his experiences reporting in conflict zones like Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and Southern Thailand. Zan will also share about how his passion and experiences in telling stories about real life has positively affected his outlook on life, his love for his children and his career. He will also provide guidelines on being a good storyteller and communicator through the use of video.Speaker:Zan Azlee is a media professional based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He started his career in 2000 as a print journalist for The Sun and then as a broadcast journalist at NTV7. Zan is also an independent filmmaker who has produced and directed numerous films that have gone on to screen at local and international film festivals such as the Malaysian Video Awards, Berlin International Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival, New York Asian-American Film Festival and Singapore International Documentary Film Festival. His documentaries have won awards at the Festival Filem Malaysia, Anugerah Seri Angkasa and Malaysian Video Awards. Zan has written five non-fiction books; JOURNO-DAD! The chronicles of a journalist who happens to be a father (2016), Guide to Independent Filmmaking (2015), The Adventures of a KL-ite in Afghanistan (2014), Operation Nasi Kerabu: Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgency (2007) and A guide to the Internet (2003). He is also a volunteer videographer for MERCY Malaysia. Zan holds a MA in Broadcast Journalism from Staffordshire University, UK, and is also a broadcast journalist and documentary lecturer at several local universities. He is also regularly invited to conduct lectures, talks and workshops. He has spoken at the University of California Berkeley, Prince Songkhla University Thailand and at the World Islamic Economic Forum, to name a few.
