Citizen Science Workshop: Radiation | Peatix tag:peatix.com,2011:1 2023-01-11T11:08:32+08:00 Peatix Loftwork HK Citizen Science Workshop: Radiation tag:peatix.com,2017:event-247509 2017-04-09T14:00:00HKT 2017-04-09T14:00:00HKT Safecast is a project emerged shortly after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Simply wanting to know the true radiation measurements, volunteers including high profile professionals pulled their networks and quickly created portable geiger counters that allows radiation datas to be collected extensively and accurately. Very soon, this project spreaded worldwide and became one of the largest open environmental data in human history, a truly remarkable milestone for citizen science. Our instructors will be flying all the away from Tokyo to conduct this 5 hr workshop. In this 3 part workshop, you will learn about:RADIATION BASICS such as radiation types, effects, using geiger counters with some natural radiation sources. An interactive learning experience for you to understand what radiation actually means to us. MAKE YOUR OWN. Creating a portable geiger counter (K-Geigie), the components, soldering, basic electronics and how a geiger counter works. A fun hands-on building experience. ON THE FIELD. Start collecting and uploading data and experience the power of citizen science. What’s the story about Safecast? What is citizen science? Why is open environmental data so important? Take action and join our community of citizen scientists.
