Join us for a very special evening with Mrs Jean Marshall, the wife of David Marshall, Singapore's first Chief Minister, as she explores and explains our local Jewish heritage.Although a Christian herself, her knowledge of - and interest in - Judaism stems from her long marriage to David, the son of Sephardi Jews who migrated to Singapore from Baghdad in 1900In her talk, Mrs Marshall will speak of her own discovery  of the background of her husband’s community which has been represented in  Singapore since the time of Raffles, as well as discuss some of the  many existing evidences of contributions which Jewish individuals and groups  have made  to  Singapore’s history  and development. This event will be held at beautiful Eden Hall, the British High Commissioner's residence in Singapore, itself a part of our heritage. You may know that this "Wedgwood style" house was designed by Singapore's renowned architect, RAJ Bidwell over 100 years ago. But did you know that its first owner was a prominent Jewish businessman? And that Mr Bidwell also designed our second synagogue in Oxley Rise?All proceeds from this event will go to charities supported by Mrs Marshall and Mrs Anne Wightman, the British High Commissioner’s wife.
