In fact, illiteracy was often regarded as a virtue of womanhood in the late 19th and early 20th century in Singapore. However, some courageous women managed to break free from social norms to become professionals and leaders in their own right. And, not forgetting a few good men who turned their backs on convention by setting up schools for girls and sanctuaries for prostitutes. In the spirit of the International Women’s Day, join us at Bukit Brown Cemetery to hear their stories, and feel the pains and gains of lives less ordinarily lived.-------------------------------------------------------------------This guided walk starts at 9.00 am and ends at 11.30amMeeting Point: Meeting Point B.
