This series aim to share local and regional films, with a heritage perspective, to complement with the Singapore Heritage Short Film Competition programme. After two successful screenings of Singapore' HOMECOMING, and Malaysia's RETURN TO NOSTALGIA, we head further north of the Asian hinterland, and drop off at Cambodia. This time, director DAVY CHOU tries to trace the golden generation of Cambodian cinema in the 1960s, which unfortunately had been mostly lost due to the ravages of war. There will be a post-screening dialogue with director DAVY CHOU after the screening.GOLDEN SLUMBERTotal running time - 96 minutes.Film rating - PGDirector – DAVY CHOUCambodian cinema flourished in the 1960s, drawing huge crowds to theatersaround the country, until the industry was destroyed by the Khmers Rouges in1975. Of the 400 films produced, only 30 remain today. Almost all the actorswere killed during the reign of Pol Pot and only a few of the directors wereable to flee the country. Most of the old movie theaters of Phnom Penh havebecome restaurants, karaoke clubs or squats. Golden Slumbers resurrects themyths and legends of this lost cinema.
