But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.’
We all have genius within us. Yet knowing you have a genius within doesn't make picking up a guitar or a paintbrush any easier. On the contrary, if we believe that "art" is for "artists" only, we live only as an observer and dreamer. On Monday night, you'll hear how these artists found their way to let art into their lives. Unique stories of self-expression, we promise you’ll leave inspired to unleash your own genius!OPEN MIC - No More Slots (NA)Join us for a shot of creative inspiration, for soulful conversations with old and new friends over coffee/drinks, and for a night that’ll inspire you to unleash your own genius. Come alone, or bring friends. Either way, you’ll meet a new crowd to mingle with! And as always, feel free to join the artists afterwards to freestyle and create fun music on the fly! 1. Ezza Afiqa (MY) - pop jazzMaking quite the name for herself in the jazz scene, Ezza will be our first performer for the night, making the 9th edition the first to have jazz! Here’s more about Ezza, from Ezza!“Music has been with me for as long as I can remember. I started out singing on my own ever since I was a little child. Seeing that a lot of other interests have shaken off except music while growing up, I know that regardless, it is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.At the moment, it’s something I do for a living, and I am pretty blessed to do something I love for a living, aside from other things. I am pretty much diverse when it comes to style and genre, but what gets me the most would be jazz, soul, RnB, reggae, as well as hip hop. I am also a retro / classic freak! Though I can still shuffle my playlist onto something else when I feel like I want to.”(2) Remington Cooney (AUS) - acoustic folk flavored with blues-style harmonicaRem mesmerized our audience at December’s UYG holiday edition Beatles Jam Session with Beatles covers and his own covers, and we’re so excited to bring him back!
“I found my love for music through my Dad. He always had great CD's playing in the car and in the family home when I was growing up in Adelaide. That music stuck with me for life: particularly Aussie bands like Crowded House, Men at Work. It was also my Dad who introduced me to the guitar at age 11. He bought me my first guitar and taught me my first songs.

I discovered my style of songwriting when I was about the age of 17. I had already been playing guitar for 6 years, but was just mimicking and not creating my own music. My lead singer from my band encouraged my songwriting skills and helped me shape my 'sound' which is still developing to this day.

Playing music is something I've tried to 'give up' or cut down on for one reason or another throughout my life - whether it be due to lack of time, resources, or just being fed up with creative blocks. However, time and time again it always beckons me back, as if I can't really get away - which makes sense because it’s a big chunk of who I am. So stepping back in to more music is always an act of surrender, rather than a conscious choice. But it's a sweet surrender.”Follow him for a taste of what you’ll get:FB : https://www.facebook.com/remingtoncooneySoundcloud : https://soundcloud.com/remingtoncooney/(3) Armon (MY) - rapA rapper, singer, songwriter, Armon and his band are currently hard at work rehearsing for their gig at LeNoir at Como (TREC) on Sat, Jan 11th at 10pm-1am, just 2 nights before UYG! We’re fortunate to have him on board as our third headliner.“I was doing music since 6 years old. But music truly became my life in the year of 2011. And since then I’ve been building on it to create my own legacy. My influences include Macklemore, John Legend, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Kendrick Lamar, Incubus, Metallica, The Beatles. My music inspires me to be the sincerest me I can possibly muster. And I would sincerely convey my stories and feelings, whether it is a party song, a song about love, of loss or even dealing with the demons within. All in hopes that another can find their own meaning in it.Music centers my being and gives me a conduit to reach out to others, so they can either find an emotional anchor or a beacon to unravel certain aspects of their lives. I hope that for them, because thats what music does for me.”Go here to follow Armon:FB : www.facebook.com/armonofficialIG : @armonofficialYouTube : www.youtube.com/nigesharmonSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/5qFplwNhNYMiL969DMx180 Updates tag:peatix.com,2017-02-07 04:10:49 2017-02-07 04:10:49 The event description was updated.
