TEDxYouth@KL Adventures: Merdeka Walk by RakanKL

RakanKL was first formed in 2012 as a gathering of concerned citizens and civil society advocates who were inspired to form this group due to two major controversies related to urban planning, heritage destruction and land-use policies in Kuala Lumpur. It is a voluntary community effort that runs on active participation and monetary donation.

Merdeka Walks explores several landmarks and passes through vital streets in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. These landmarks and streets indicate essential characteristics of the city.

The walk will pass through several landmarks and streets as follows:

Jalan Panggong, Old Post Office, Gurdwara Sahib Balai Polis, Urchin Alley, Former Pak Tai Studio, Kwong Fook Wing Tailor, Yan Keng Benevolent Dramatic Association, Chinese Medical Hall, Jalan Davidson, Stadium Negara, Tunku Park

TIPS for the walk:

  • Do wear light clothing and comfortable walking footwear.

  • Do bring water/umbrella/hat for the journey (especially for this timing).

  • Be mindful that we will be exposed to natural elements along the walk (sun, rain, smoke).

  • Avoid heavy loading, arriving late and leaving middle of walk.

  • Do take photos and note to be shared on Facebook, twitter, blogs and hashtag #RakanKL

P.S. We will be collecting donations at the end of the walk to help fund future programmes and projects. As RakanKL projects are done on voluntary basis, the donation will ensure sustainability of the efforts since 2012.

Note: Given that this is a strictly exclusive event for TEDxYouth@KL 2017 ticket holders, all attendees will be vetted and would be issued confirmation email. If you haven’t gotten yourself a ticket, please do head on over to: http://tedxyouthkl2017.peatix.com/
