As part of the Pet Me, Pet Me, Look at Me, Love Me exhibition, each artist launches a conversation with a Singaporean writer of their choice to explore common threads and themes in their practices, and how text and images influence each other.March 25 (Sat), 3.30pm to 4.30pmLavender Chang x You JinWhat do you get when you pair two ardent lovers of culinary arts and travelling together? Delightful morsels of information on life and memories. Cozy up with Lavender and You Jin in an intimate conversation of stories revolving around food, family migration, and identity and learn about how they draw inspiration from daily life to create. These more often than not translate into images provoking deeper thought on issues of time and identity. She is the winner of the 2012/2013 Affordable Art Fair’s Young Talent Programme and most recently the 6th France+ Singapore Photographic Art Awards in 2015.You Jin, writerTham Yew Chin whose pen name is You Jin, has published close to 180 short stories, essays and travelogues in her literary career spanning 40 years. Perhaps more so for Liana and Thiam Chin, whose practices are almost self-portraits of their innermost thoughts and desires. Sit back and enjoy the lively banter unfolding between artist and writer as they navigate the haze of romance and affection to contemplate on how similarly and differently they approach and depict the complexities of love in their creations. She is drawn to the trivialities and oddities that we encounter in our daily experiences. This includes the enigmatic and unseen aspects of relationships, as well as explorations of memory and associations in our contemporary culture.O Thiam Chin, writerO Thiam Chin is the author of five collections of short fiction: Free-Falling Man, Never Been Better, Under The Sun, The Rest Of Your Life and Everything That Comes With It, and Love, Or Something Like Love. O was an honorary fellow of the Iowa International Writing Program in 2010, a recipient of the National Arts Council’s Young Artist Award in 2012, and has been shortlisted for the 2014 Singapore Literature Prize.The House Party The House Party is an annual celebration organised by The Arts House where artists, writers and musicians come together to share with us stories that inspire their being and their work. This year, we highlight the various literary expressions across artistic genres through an eclectic range of events by Singapore artists. From a poetic musical dialogue curated by Young Artist Award winner Marc Nair, a showcase of Asian stories by master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran, a photo exhibition by local photographers Liana Yang and Lavender Chang, to jazz and chamber music performances curated by Aya Sekine and violinist Loh Jun Hong respectively.
