Driven by the warm temperatures and ample rainfall, that generate the high net primary productivity (NPP) of our natural forests, the plantation industry has been efficiently and effectively converting carbon dioxide, water and sunlight into an almost unfathomable range of food, fuel, fibre and other products needed and used domestically and sought and valued around the world for their contribution to emissions reduction, human health and quality of life. This has placed it in direct competition with other international oil crops and made it a target for unjustified smear campaigns much of which have since been debunked. Domestically, we are only beginning to plumb the true depth of the opportunities the industry is capable of delivering, most notably in the area of renewable liquid fuel, biomass and biogas, non-forest, non-tree fibre and high-value oleochemicals. Malaysia’s inexorable journey into decarbonisation must include a comprehensive and strategic assessment of the entire value chain the industry can provide to accelerate the national net zero emissions economy. Join this series of Round Table conversations to discuss the policies which would help align interests.Topic: Monitoring, Reporting and VerificationWhen: 2pm-3:15pm Wednesday 4 August 2021Speakers include: Puvan Selvanathan (Bluenumber), Dr Surina Ismail (IOI), Olivier Tichit (Musim Mas) moderated by Dr Gary Theseira (MGTC)The link for this online session will provide attendees with access for both Sessions I and II, which are happening on the same afternoon. Puvan J.
