The UK's vote to leave the EU did not end the debate about
the UK's relationship with the EU. It opened up a new phase in that debate about
how access to the EU single market trades off against a commitment to limit
migration into the UK. Powerful economic arguments for market access jar with
populist concerns about migration. This lecture explores how these competing
forces are unfolding and concludes that populist appeals to voters are likely
to have the upper hand over economic arguments. A 'hard' Brexit looks
increasingly likely. Location and Timing:The lecture will be hosted by Wee Kim Wee Centre, Singapore Management University, at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium (Level 5), 81 Victoria Street Singapore 188065, on Tuesday 1st Nov 2016. 6.00pm: Arrival of Guests, Registration6.30pm: Welcome
