Artist in The House: "The Weighing Scale" with Kumari Nahappan
Join us for an "Artist in the House" session with artist Kumari Nahappan as she talks about the making of "The Weighing Scale" installation, which is part of IHC's Once Upon a Time in Little India exhibition.
About the Artist:
Kumari is a conceptual artist based in Singapore and has contributed significantly to the artistic and cultural landscape of the country. Over the past two decades, her artistic journey has seen her develop an extensive body of works, including paintings, sculptures and installations, which have been exhibited in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Kumari has received many accolades as an artist. More recently, her 6.6 metres Tango sculpture was nominated and awarded the Sculpture of the Year at the 15th edition of the Shanghai Art Fair 2011.
The works of Kumari are well sought after by museums, galleries and private collectors. Kumari is noted for her signature and iconic, monumental public art sculptures. The giant bronze chilli-pepper, Pedas Pedas (2006) was commissioned by the National Museum of Singapore, the Saga (2007) at Changi Airport, Singapore, the Nutmeg (2009) at ION Orchard, Singapore, You and Me (2010) for GTower, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Pembungaan (2011), a monumental bronze mural of over 45m in length at OUE Bayfront, Singapore.
