Starting from Bedok Town Square, audiences or “musical trail riders” will get a chance to hop on an open-top bus and take a trip down memory lane to learn more about the history of Bedok and get a glimpse of some of Bedok’s heritage sites. Experience a nostalgic throw back to the good ol’ kampung days and enjoy a unique, pop-up, cultural performance of familiar tunes such as Di Tanjung Katong, Muneruu Vaalibaa and Chan Mali Chan, at the Bedok Food Centre.Did you know that the town of Bedok originally got its name from the Malay word ‘Bedoh’ (which means drum)? In celebration of Bedok and its drumming origins, musical trail riders will also get a chance to pick up some simple drumming patterns and be a part of the grand finale performance, alongside professional musicians, back at Bedok Town Square. Whether you’re a kid, a parent, a grandparent, or just an adult looking to explore the arts in your neighbourhood, join us for an immersive experience and grab your most-loved company along for a fun and enjoyable time! This programme is commissioned specially for Arts In Your Neighbourhood 2016.Date: 20 November 2016 (Sunday)Time: Session #1 9.30am - 12.00pm | Session #2 2.00pm - 4.30pmVenue: Bedok Town Square (Meeting Point: Open area in front of stage)Things To Note: Your registration will only be confirmed upon receiving an email from NAC. This programme is suitable for all ages and will be conducted in English and Mandarin.Interested participants can choose to attend either Session #1 or Session #2. Each session will take about 2 - 2.5 hours. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably with comfortable walking shoes and to bring along a water bottle for the trail. Latecomers will not be permitted to join the open-top bus trail. In the event of bad weather, please note that this programme may be delayed or cancelled. Recipient of the National Arts Council’s Young Artist Award in 2002, Ling Kiong is committed to spreading his passion and knowledge of music to budding young musicians. About DicapellaDicapella is a congregation of Singapore’s top award-winning dizi (bamboo flute) soloists and is currently the largest bamboo flute ensemble in South-east Asia. Since its establishment, Dicapella have represented Singapore in the first ever Singapore Dizi festival held in 2015 and organized a SG50 concert under the support of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. The ensemble also held its inaugural concert in 2016, where the ensemble and its various consultants (Maestro Zhan Yong Ming, Mr Lim Sin Yeo, Mr Phang Thean Siong, Mr Tan Chye Tiong) performed together at Esplanade. In the same year, Dicapella was also given the privilege and opportunity to participate in the China ASEAN Music Week held in Nanning, Guangxi.--About Arts Imprints Around My Neighbourhood Arts Imprints Around My Neighbourhood is a 3-part project, where familiar neighbourhoods will be transformed into unusual sites for pop-up performances. Conceptualised by Singapore Chinese Orchestra's Resident Conductor and Music Director of the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra Mr Quek Ling Kiong, it aims to inspire residents of Singapore to rediscover and appreciate their neighbourhood with their families and friends.
