And these challenges can start right from the age of a pre-schooler.Some children are angry all the time. They hit. They bite. They play rough or clamour over every possible learning material. They do not share. They cannot sit still. They like to spin or appear dreamy in class. They can be fussy eaters or unable to write for long.Why are they being so ‘difficult’? Are they deliberately trying to be ‘naughty’?Through this hands-on and experiential workshop, participants will be introduced to the world of Sensory Processing Difficulties (SPD). Using sensory-led activities, Eugenia will demonstrate and explain how SPD feels like and how it is different from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Expect engaging activities where participants will have a first-hand experience on their own sensory processing differences. Using real-life case studies, Eugenia will share insights on how SPD could be mistaken for “challenging behaviour” in the classroom and everyday life.Participants will get the chance to explore Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity at the end of the workshop and create their own sensory tools, applying what they have learnt from the session.Every parent who signs up for this workshop will be entitled to a special rate of $13 (U.P. $22) for their child/ren's admittance to Playeum. Terms and conditions:1) Special rate applies to children of workshop participants only, up to 2 children per participant.2) Adult supervision is required for every child admission. Workshop participants will need to arrange for another accompanying adult for their child/ren during workshop hours. 3) Free admission for one accompanying (non-workshop) adult, $10 for additional (non-workshop) accompanying adult. 4) Workshop fee is inclusive of one adult admittance (for workshop participant only).About the Trainer:Eugenia is a proud mother of two highly creative, fun-loving and sensitive children. She is also an ACTA-certified facilitator, lecturer and advocate for play.Since 2008, Eugenia has been a teacher to students with varying learning difficulties (ASD, Asperger, ADHD/ADD, dyslexia, clinical depression and hearing impairment) in mainstream schools. She works closely with school counsellors and therapists to provide an inclusive learning environment for students with special learning needs.With her interest in Specific Learning Disabilities, Eugenia is currently undertaking her Master in Education (Inclusive and Special Education) with Monash University, and works as a volunteer with special education schools in Singapore.As the co-founder of the community group, Sensory Processing Awareness Group Singapore (SPAGS), she hopes to generate greater awareness on SPD in the local community.
